Some of you may not know that we are blessed to live near several very large Old Order Amish communities.  One of the ways we are blessed is by the fact that we have made many dear friends and if we ever need to know how to do something, they can usually guide the way for us.  That is especially true when it comes to the kitchen.  I have received many hours of counsel in that area, from canning to making soap.

This giveaway is my way of blessing you with much of the same knowledge because in this 272 page cookbook, you will find everything from Breads to Soups and even their famous Root Beer recipe.

An example of the great recipes in this Amish Cookbook are:

Desserts
Cinnamon Rolls
Cherry Pie Amish Delight
Cracker Jacks
Elderberry Custard Pie
Friendship Bread
Hillbilly Bread
Missouri Squash Pie
Shoo-Fly Pie
Apple Dapple Cake
Whoopie Pies
Raspberry Dumplings

Bread and Butter Pickles
Chicken Soup

Yum-sette

Odds N Ends
Goat Milk Cheese
Granola
Grape-Nuts
Sandwich Spread
Yogurt

Misc.
Cold Soap
Lye Soap
Paint Remover
Playdough
Stain Remover
White Wash
Window Cleaner

Plus there are many Food for Thought items like the Beatitudes for Homemakers, Mothers Meditations and Recipe To Live By which are delightful little poems or writings by the Amish.

Also, you will find several Helpful Hints that include Flu and Cold items, Kitchen Hints, some Tried Health Remedies.

  2. I would absolutely LOVE to win this cookbook. I have the Menonite one "More with Less" and it is tattered and worn, I use it so much. I love these types of books because they don't tell you to open a can of beans to make baked beans!!! I get tired of all the church cookbooks that tell you to open this can of soup or add this can of... to me that isn't scratch cooking at all!! Thanks for hosting a wonderful give away! I respect the Amish and their ways so much! They are an inspiration for sure!

  45. I'm very intrigued by this cookbook. I've been endeavoring (for seems like forever) to learn to actually cook. I admire those who possess the knowledge and skill of cooking from a basic pantry or that which can be gotten out of a garden or farmers market. I've been shocked to discover how extremely difficult it is to find cooking and recipes that don't involve packaged products, which makes learning the cooking aspect of homemaking even more challenging. I suspect that this cookbook being a production of the Amish to be a good fit for what I'm looking for, and would appreciate an entry into your giveaway! Thanks

Thank you so much for your visit today. It's so fun pinning with you as it seems like we like a lot of the same things. And such a small world that you once lived up this way...and get this, I was a student at Baptist Bible College in Springfield, MO at the foot of the Ozarks once upon a time (ancient history). Pretty country. I looks like you have an amazing homestead. Maybe someday we can meet in person on one of your trips north??? I've added you to my sidebar & will head off to FB now...I always enjoy being a resource lady for other homeschoolers to good sites such as yours.

Many Blessings to You and Yours. ttyl
