Raw Milk

Obtaining raw milk seems to be getting harder and harder.  I didn't even know it was possible here in Missouri unless you were friends with a dairyman or if you happened to stumble across some at a Farmer's Market before the government scared off all the farmers.  In Wisconsin, if you live outside of the city limits, you are more than likely going to have a neighbor that will provide you with plenty of raw milk.  Every time they milk, there is so much milk that they pour pails of it into tubs to feed their surplus of barn cats.  The farms I knew always had an average of 20 cats or so.  Needless to say, my hope of finding raw milk here in Missouri has all but been abandoned until today!  A friend of mine mentioned a website that has began a campaign for Real Milk.  There is an abundance of information on this site including the pros and cons of raw milk and you can look by state and city at your local farmers that offer raw milk.  Unless you've been under a rock, you
know the battle people face in obtaining raw milk and how some farmers are being destroyed by the government.....here is an article of what one farm faces here in Missouri FDA Targets Dairy.  Here is a link to a local news story on the dairy from KY3 News .  To follow the dairy's fight, visit their BLOG.

There is now an organization called the Farm to Consumer Legal Defense Fund.  They are working to protect the rights of farmers to provide raw milk and the rights of consumers to obtain raw milk.  Lots of good information on all these links that I am excited to have and wanted to share with you.

One can get lost in all of these articles and information.  One things for sure, the large corporations are attacking the small farmer in every capacity.  I look forward to having our own raw milk again and supporting a local farmer.  The media and the government continues to send out information about how bad raw milk is and that we shouldn't dare think for ourselves, however, I have never had a bad experience with raw milk or anything made from it.  Plus, I have never known anyone or even heard of a friend that has a friend etc. that has ever had a problem with it either.  The FDA keeps preaching that what they are doing is for the safety of Americans, but then were are being allowed to eat GMO food, toxic preservatives, high fructose corn syrup and the meat from the commercial stockyards is beyond explanation.  If you have any questions about that, watch the movie or read the book Food, Inc.  It seems the large food and seed corporations actually own or are strong arming our government and a lot of the restrictions being enforced are merely their reaction to the American people working towards being self sufficient.  Think of all the money the big corporations stand to lose if Americans succeed!

Our family is working to become self sufficient, one step at a time.  God tells us in scripture, to not be a slave to man.  If we continue to depend on others for our basic needs, without any attempt to become self sufficient, we are going against the Word of God.  Since our family has begun to take the proper measures to depend on ourselves, God has blessed every effort we have made, no matter how small.  The promise of reaping what you sow, pertains to all aspects of life.....gardening, learning, working, building......everything!

  1. Thanks Sara! This whole milk thing and the food thing gets me more riled than I care to be at times. It is so apparent that it isn't for the greater good even though they still cling to that excuse. Just my .02 worth, LOL!!
