On the Hunt for Free Books?

Did you know that you can get a free reading app even without a Kindle or a Nook?

I sure didn't until now, or I would've been all over this months ago!

Recently, my dear husband got me a Kindle Fire and so I've been learning all about the best places to find free books, but you don't have to have one of these devices to get these freebies!  Simply click on this link: FREE APPS  to download a free reading app for your computer, then have fun with collecting all of the free books you can find!

Listed below are some of what I found today, but remember, they are only free for a short time.  Usually they remain free for 24 hours, but not always.  Here is my disclaimer:  ALWAYS check to make sure the Kindle version is free before clicking or you may get charged for it!

Hearty, homey, and simple supper recipes from Appalachia. These stick to your ribs meals are easy to cook using ingredients you probably already have in your pantry. Some come from my grandmothers and aunts, some are church supper favorites, and others are just dishes everyone should learn to make. I hope your family will enjoy eating these dishes as much as mine does.

Close your eyes and imagine the smell of fresh bread wafting under your nose. Are you smiling yet? One of life's greatest pleasures is sinking your teeth into a buttery slice of crusty bread, still warm from the oven.

This one speaks for itself..... simple recipes and directions!

Can you think of anything nicer than preparing a meal from produce grown in your own garden? Whether you own a window box or a meadow, every outdoor space can yield a fine crop of fruit or vegetables. Plant some delicious cut-and-come again salads in a window box, plan a ‘square foot’ garden on a four-foot square plot, or use your flowerbed to grow decorative vegetables and flowers together. Growing your own food doesn’t have to be time-consuming or expensive. A few packets of seeds and some basic tools – a spade, fork, hoe, rake, trowel and watering can – will provide you with all you need to fill a plot with vegetables. Whatever you choose to grow you’ll find nothing beats the satisfaction of serving up a home-cooked, home-grown meal to family or friends. Good luck and happy digging.

Going organic is the latest trend when it comes to food, and plenty of us have jumped at the chance to have more healthy eating options. Clothing has jumped on the organic bandwagon in recent months too, but aside from these two areas it's hard to see where else you can go from chemical to natural without having to spend hours researching organic products and then a fortune buying them. But it is possible to make your whole life organic without breaking the bank or giving up the little luxuries you love, and with the help of Live organic it's easier then ever to go natural. From organic cleaning solutions to chemical-free clothing, and from natural foods to fantastic organic flowers, Live organic has every aspect of organic living covered. Whether you're searching for the perfect organic food supplier, or looking to swap your chemical-packed cleanser with something all-natural, expert author Lynn Huggins Cooper can help you turn your lifestyle from chemical nightmare to organic dream. Simply brilliant.

And I saved the best for last!

  1. I downloaded the Kindle for PC about a year ago. I have been collecting free books since then. When I got my Kindle a few months ago I was able to transfer them to it. It is nice to have all the free books.

    Have a wonderful day.

  3. Yes, it is wonderful that you can use the free kindle app on your laptop. It is really wonderful to make use of your public library. Thanks for sharing your really good choices on reading material!

    1. With the free reading apps, you can borrow books from the library that are automatically returned so there are never any late fees, not to mention the cost of gas getting to your library! However, I don't believe being able to borrow ebooks from the library replaces the value of the public library. We have been blessed by a wonderful library and the ladies that work there and not only that, our ladies are extremely cautious as to what type of books are on the shelves for the children of their community. That is rare in this day and age and we feel truly blessed for it.

  5. I have been using the kindle app for PC for over a year now and it has been great for us for school. I found that many of the books that we wanted to read for history/literature were free for Kindle - such as G.A. Henty books and many of the older books that are in the public domain now (Jane Austen books, books by Theodore Roosevelt, etc.)

We decided with this year's income tax refund that we needed to replace a very old, worn out pc we were using for school and really wanted to get 2 laptops, but that was too expensive. So, we opted for getting an e-reader, that could access the internet, in place of one of the laptops. After comparing Kindle Fire with the Nook Tablet we went with the Nook Tablet. I found out that it can read more than just the Nook books that are sold on Barnes & Noble's Nook website. Many of the formats it will read (such as ePub) are available as free downloads from websites like Project Gutenberg and Books Should Be Free. I would suggest for anyone using a reader or a reader app to do a little search and find out what formats will work with your reader. There are many free e-book sites out there and many library's are now loaning e-books for free.
